This is the aiptasia that came in my live rock order from GLR about 6 weeks ago.

Fast forward to 6/1/2017:

He's in a 20g with no corals, only a valentini puffer, giant emerald, hermits, and astrea snails. Hasn't spread at all in 6 weeks. (Seems to contradict what a lot of people say about them, or maybe im just lucky) I feed it about twice a day when I feed the puffer.

I just killed the one in my 55g. Been the only one in there for months. His name was Clyde.
I'M A MURDERER!!!!!!:(

If you try to kill it, then it will spread to ensure survival. But if you keep feeding it, then it will eventually reproduce since it is happy. Kind of like how bubble tip anemones split when provided with optimal living conditions. Either way, you'll eventually have multiples.

I make sure to kill them asap. I don't want a tank taken over by any single species.

Oh just try to kill it and you'll find out how quickly they can spread. Trust you're just lucky, it will eventually spread when it's good and ready. Thirty years in the hobby and I can say definitively once the conditions are right they will spread.
BTW with my 1st sw tank in 1987 I was thrilled to have them, good times. :D

once the conditions are right they will spread.
This is in one of my garage tanks, so its not inconvenient for me to keep around. I'll see how long it takes to spread ;)
On the positive side, giant aiptasia are easy targets with a syringe.

Shame on you sir! Shame! I'm sure you had a good reason ;)
No, I have none. I was killing some palys and,,, I just lost mind.
On the bright side, the 30 gal has 300 of Clydes kids in it!!!;Woot
