They haven't opened in a couple days Help out

I have three 6'' rocks covered in multi colored zoa's and one of them has some that haven't opened in a couple days most of the rest on that rock are half open and a couple open all the way. Should I move the rock over near one of the other two that are doing great. Maybe it's a flow thing or a light thing. The only thing I have changed was more frequent water changes because of some algae and thats it. I was only doing 10% every couple weeks and the last few weeks every week. Well the other thing i did was get some new bulbs in my fixture But nothing else has an issue even the other rocks with same zoa's on them Everything was fine they have been in the tank for a few months..

What do you all think

They are probaly reacting to the new bulbs .Can you move them to a shaded area?

Look for algae on or around zoas may have to pull algae out with tweezers or use a tooth brush lightly. Hair algae takes off fast try and stay on top of it if that is what it is! Also could be an invert or pest bothering also look at night with a flashlight see if u spot anything. Good luck

You could dip the whole rock. I use Coral Rx. Any critters should fall off or you can pick them off. Just protect your eyes and hands! Could a crab or something else be bothering them? I had a colony that fish food dropped on once and the crabs were picking at them. Good luck!

You can also blast them with a turkey Baster to remove any debris. That maybe bothering them?

I blasted them with one of mr recirc pumps but they looked a little better today. Think I should move them down a bit.

Good news my zoa's are doing much better. Don't know if it helped but I moved them next to some that are doing great. Maybe the good spirit of the other bunch made my sad zoa's happy.

Could you share here what new bulbs were those and what bulbs/how old were the ones you've removed?

well I was running two old hamilton actinic 96watt pc bulbs that came with the fixture I bought from someone. They sucked. The guy also had some 10k bulbs in there as well but I don't like them. I just put in 4 new sunpaq 96watt 50/50 420nm/450nm bulbs. Wow thats some light. the two old actincs were dim and skinny and was suprised how much thicker the sunpaq bulbs are. I also have three 150 watt HQI MH but they probably will ned bulbs soon. the middle one is looking weak now. I was thinking of going to new ballast and 250watt MH but I think I'm going to just buy the new P47 led lights from reeflights.com They were at macna2013 and can replace radium 400watt MH. Not that I would run them that high but hey they do it.

Hummm… I don't think so… there is no LED system today capable to substitute MHs yet, as far as I know.
There is no LED system as good as, or better than a MH system.
Even T5s are much better than LEDs today.
That's why many people are going back to theirs MH/T5 system.

I do hope one day LEDs will be worthy it to change for MH/T5s, but not yet!

And for about $600 per head? No kidding…
Change your wonderful Radiums and be happy, please.
Radiums are serious reef lights!
