I bought some new rocks a few weeks ago. I went out of town for a week and came back to this in all of my rocks. Anyone know what they are? Are they harmful? If so, how do I remove? They're literally everywhere and they are hideous.

Thanks!

Neomeris annulata algae.
A lightly calcified species of green macro algae that is found growing in shallow water. It has green, finger-like uprights, that are spongy and fuzzy. It does fairly well in the aquarium, but its growth rate is usually minimal. This species can become invasive if conditions are optimal in the aquarium and once established can be difficult to remove .

Where are you located ? I’d buy some off of you for my Mangrove tank !

I’m in Houston, TX. I’d gladly give it to you. After reading last night it looks like I’ve got a battle ahead of me that usually ends in a tank reboot.

Going to try manual removal and huge magnesium bump tonight. According to some they have seen success with that strategy.

Ugh!

I would take them out and rasp the rock and follow it with a peroxide tank water soak them rinse.

The high mag thing was elevated lithium in Kent mag. They changed the formula.

I spent a good hour picking them all out the other night. The sprouts are all back and growing well.

Looks like it's peroxide soak time.

Ug.

Just rinse well or let em rest in old tank water for a while after the peroxide.
