i know we have some algae wizards here. snails eat it. its a slippery thick matte. jello feel.

it does form bubbles but im not convinced it is dino or cyano.

some context of character with this video.

maybe @brandon429 can chime in

Sorry cant help you on an id but the tank I have now the guy I got it from tore the tank down sold and sold it to me because of this algae. It was all over his rocks like that. I took his rock and scrubbed it with a tooth brush, pressure washed it, scrubbed it with a peroxide bath and then pressure washed it again. Seems to have done the trick but hard to do with an already setup tank. Good luck I will be tagging along to see what this stuff was in case in comes back on me.

so i do know it loves po4.

was just curious what it was.

This is not an easy ID for sure I'm having to guess a start

Russ see if you think pics of chrysophytes online look like this it's hard for me to tell

One thing about its morphology though indicates UV to be a potential high value not a waste of time: no holdfast system, easily lifted off, and most likely has a water transition phase where intercept might be ideal

I didn't recall from your Dino thread if you are already using uv

It's not that it would remove it, it's that after full hand removal it's likely to help on regrowth arrest due to its characters...if you aren't using uv Amazon has a fine rental plan. Lasts about 29 days depending on seller. Judging by the neotherm heater I just got from them, it was someone else's rent lol it works so I kept it.

This is tricky

Any bryozoans it looks too smooth to be those

man. it is like a 2cm thick gelatin filament. i can "peel" it off.
it only reacts when i dose phosphate.

i stopped (obviously) and i only have a little left, but i wanted to know what this matte algae was.

i mean 100% tested. everytime i dosed phosphate it grew. this wasnt a maybe thing like you get with cyano and more flow.

I think our only hope might be marine algae dB am checking. What if that's a true bac mat non algal do you have a scope handy

Cell wall/chlorophyll hunt
