Has anyone had an issue with coral laying down a thin base of encrusting. Ive had the issue with a foxflame as well as a cyphastrea. Its colored like the rest of the coral just looks paper thin.. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Can you share a picture of what you're referring to?

I don't have a picture.. As i am at work right now.. On the fox flame and the cyphastrea the coral has come off the base/glue on to the frag plug. Once on the plug it has spread its base about 1/4 " around. The strange thing is its super thin almost like its just the flesh of the coral, no skeleton if that makes sense? The green slimer and tort on the other hand encrust about 1/16th of an inch thick.

So it's not hard like an encrusting base?

Is it similar to the encrusting base on this picture? If so it's just the encrusting base and is part of normal growth :)

I would say its hard because its on the frag plug, so thin I can almost see through it. I know its flesh from the coral because its the same exact color as the coral.

Yes but would say its probably 1/2 to 1/4 of that thickness. Ive never seen the encrusting so thin, wasn't sure if something was up. I will try to get a good picture when I get home.

The fox flame is a fairly thin skinned acro anyways and the leading edges grow thin.

Here’s one I’ve neglected on a frag rack for 4 months that shows thin growth onto the rack.

I would say from the picture that your growth is about 3-4 times thicker than mine. Maybe its just my parameters are different.

Could be a parameter off. If you can get us some numbers that may help :)

Weird...everything appears within spec. Lets get some more experts in here and see what they think #reefsquad

Yes. It happens.

Nothing to be concerned with. Long as it looks good and you dont see white skeleton. Keep doing what you are doing.
