Things to consider - Nano Reef Guide

What do you suggest to add first to an 8 gallon with hair algae? 1 snail? A snail and a hermit?

Thank you for the write up. I started a lil tank on my desk at work and simple is my game plan.

Bare bottom, par 38 Light and a powerhead/filter. Just have a crab and a few corals.

Nice! I hope to get together a work-desk sized nano together in the future. Simplicity is the key!

Very beginner friendly article and some nice tips from others too, thank you for the write-up! Although I agree that nanos are not good for beginners I have finally started to learn that they are not as intimidating as I always thought.

Nice informative article I just recently started a 30 gallon nano reef. I don't have any Coral in it yet but I have a clown fish, a trio of zebra barred darts, and a pink spotted watchman goby. I also got three hermit crabs and a cleaner shrimp and a red banded snapping shrimp. On the first day I got the shrimp they disappeared and I haven't seen them since haha. I also researched watchman gobys so I decided to get a pink spotted one. Well after I got him I did some more research and it turns out pink spotted watchman gobys are known to eat hermit crabs and ornamental shrimp I wish live aquaria would have mentioned that haha. Anyways I'm down to one hermit crab I think I thought about maybe getting some bigger hermit crabs so my watchman won't eat them. Anyways does anybody have any recommendations on some types of Coral to get? I was thinking about getting the beginner pack from world wide Coral.

WWC is a good spot, really well known high quality trusted coral from there.

I'd advise against bigger hermit crabs they can get out of control big here's a wild hermit I found on the beach of Japan.

That is a big hermit crab!

imagine the snail it had to kick or eaten up for that shell!

This is such a cool chat thank you for starting it. I started a 10 gallon reef tank about 7 months ago and wish I had found it sooner.
