Yes 55gal cube w 20gal long refugium but my protein skimmer sucks need new one quickLol, I dig the name. Was that the tank you were asking about on Craig’s list awhile back?
Ok at first I was gonna go all Fake stuff in tank because I’m more interested in my seahorses and bright colors n such. Anyway after being on this site and seeing some of the most incredible tanks and displays I’ve seen I started leaning towards the real reef site, but not completely sure I could handle it,, sure is a lot of fancy chemistry words and names of corals ,, plus what u can put with what and so forth. Scared the bjesus out of me( only 10th grade education, went to work instead) I even went as far fake as to buy a reef cartoonish center piece. Lol. So I set tank all fake at first and sent a buddy ( that has a large beautiful most colorful reef tank) a pic to ask honestly what you think. He replies,, looks cute very colorful but I prefer natural real tanks. Well that’s what turned me and knew person with real live rock n some reef skeletons all kept perfect cond stored correctly. So I grabed some rock that caught my eye and grabbed it and this is what I got so far. My buddy says it won’t hurt to just cover the gravel with crushed coral. Which is what the rocks are in now ( when I set tank 1st time I put 10lbs CC) it would not hurt plus says my bottom little low anyway. Well that’s y there is colorful pebbles in my tank at momentI must ask why would you put colored gravel in a tank? That paint will come off eventually

Why not do sand instead? It’s less room for aglae to grow on and if you wanted to start going into coral, you wouldn’t have to do anything. Soft corals are easy to keep and require minimal care, no dosing additives and little to no water testingOk at first I was gonna go all Fake stuff in tank because I’m more interested in my seahorses and bright colors n such. Hes got 2 beginner pieces waiting for him. A sinulara and some GSPI think you'd be able to keep coral too.
It’s probably pretty easy to take them out by syphoning. And if you don’t want to deal with maintaining reef parameters try putting some macro algaes in there. Basically plants. Would look niceOk at first I was gonna go all Fake stuff in tank because I’m more interested in my seahorses and bright colors n such. Pics of my helper bee is on my build thread in seahorse/ pipefish sectionWhat no pictures of all.the hard work drilling and plumbing the tank? Sheesh, glad I talked you out of most of the fake stuff. Lol. But hey these horses are gonna have fruity pebbles for breakfast for the rest of their lives lol.
I think you'll find that 71 (at the max) is too cool for seahorses to thrive. At least according to the websites I looked at (i.e. - perhaps a heater) - as to the rest - build your tank how you like it - maybe taking ideas from others - but its yours every day - the rest of us only see it when you put pics upPics of my helper bee is on my build thread in seahorse/ pipefish section
. which will hopefully be often. I've always wanted to get seahorses.I have had my seahorses at the same temp for close to two years I do appreciate ur concern for their wellbeing , my pony’s are all Erectus from northern Atlantic where temps are cool off Jersey coastI think you'll find that 71 (at the max) is too cool for seahorses to thrive. You're correct - its funny if you google temperature for seahorses - one site says 'minimum 78' another says 68-72 - for the same species. In any case - Your tank (to me) looks fine - its yoursI have had my seahorses at the same temp for close to two years I do appreciate ur concern for their wellbeing , my pony’s are all Erectus from northern Atlantic where temps are cool off Jersey coast
IM curious - I personally don't like the 'look' of colored 'gravel' - but what is the buffering capacity of a bare bottom tank?Colored gravel has to go. Has no buffering capabilities and the dyes will leach as the rocks are clear coated. otherwise looks nice
