Think I found aipstasia on a frag?

Hey all

I think I just found a tiny aipstasia on a new frag, and I’m not sure what to do. I’ve only just cycled my tank and have my first clowns and corals added, but I saw this and now I’m worried.

If it is aipstasia, what should I do?? I don’t want it to spread, but would feel horrible tossing a frag, but I’m more leaning towards that to protect my other frags.

Aiptasia is not something to freak out over. Just don't try removing it while in the tank.

It won't have spread. There are a variety of methods to deal with it. Always treat it outside of the tank in a bowl and rinse well with tank water before returning it to the tank. Don't poke or squish it when picking up the frag. You can use Aiptasia X, kalk as mentioned, and others. I would be tempted to coat it with crazy glue if it shrinks small enough. You could scrape it off, dribble hydrogen peroxide around the area to kill any "babies" that might have been released and cover the area in crazy glue because even a little bit left behind can grow into a new one. If you use Aiptasia X, don't get it on the zoas.

As stated earlier, take the frag out to deal with it. I would first scrape the frag plug off with a razor, then apply some h2o2, maybe some super glue. If you are comfortable and have the resources, do this instead: cut under the zoas and re-glue on a small piece of rubble with super glue. Then toss the plug.

Yeah it’s the first I’ve seen, and I always check each day for any changes, coral flesh retraction, etc etc, helps me keep on top of anything happens. As soon as I saw right before I went to bed was when I made this post

Saw this, looks like another perhaps? Kinda hard to see, but it’s either algae funnily growing in a weird clump, or another head of apstatia?

I dealt with this, and the frustrating thing is that when I would pull it out of the water the aiptaisia would retract, making it impossible to see. I ended up pulling the frag out and just putting superglue over the area where it was and that resolved it.
