think I want to start dosing iodine

So I am exploring the idea of dosing iodine but am looking for what bottle to get. I am leaning towards the lugols because it is available at my LFS.


Other ones available in the US are Aquaforest, Sea Chem, Red Sea, Triton, probably a couple others too. Which would you recommend and why? I saw Randy did not recommend the lugols because of a certain element but I would like to know a little more on why the other are useful and which ones do other reefers use.

While many people use Lugols, it is a mixture of I2 and I-. I2 is not one of the main forms present in seawater. It is highly oxidizing and reactive.

Nearly every other product is I-, and there's not much to pick from between them. Just pick a company you like.

Also, try to not change anything else when you begin dosing it to be able to more clearly discern whether it has any detectable benefit on your system. I never saw any, and don't think it useful, but it also isn't harmful (IMO).
