Bought this "cap" from an lfs. Pretty sure its not a cap. Thinkin maybe chalice. Its an oily orange color with a deep green around the base and mixed into the face. Thinking like red planet, the brighter the light the more orange. But that's a guess. Any idea?

Could u get a more clear photo? If chalice u will need less light. Monti caps are sps and require high light.

im pretty sure your right does appear to be a chalice, might want to put it in lower light

Yeah, that's a Chalice. I'm curious though, at the back of the picture is a yellow critter with some blue tipped peaks - is that a sponge or some type of Montipora? Do you have a better pic of it? The color is what attracts me - it is unusual. :)

It is a yellow sps that has developed some "worm tibes" over time. The tops are not blue. The pic just looks that way. They are hollow. Like something lives in it. But I've never seen anything move. I used to know the name. I forgot. It did not always have the tubes. Here are some older pics.

Yes definitely chalice. Honestly the species is very hard to tell. Many species look alike. Some show more species specific traits in appearance when they get bigger. As for a named chalice. It is more than likely just a nice looking un-named chalice
