Thinking about a negative space aquascape for a current tank remodel...

Those that have built the NSA, was it a new tank? I have removed rock from a five year old tank to remodel. Have corals and fish. Very interested in an NSA. But wondering about how to acclimate a new build into an existing system. Any suggestions?

Why would you want to NSA when it's just about the worst habitat you can create for reef fish? Almost all of my fish, and fish on a reef, disappear into holes and caves every night to sleep and feel safe. NSA is the complete opposite. BRS really popularized NSA, but eventually back tracked because it's a poor habitat.

You make a fair point. To answer your question specifically….For me it’s more a reef tank. Not a fish tank.

The most interesting part to me is the unique construction and ability to provide such an open feel. it is ideal for corals. And cosmetically such an interesting scape to look at.

I’ve seen some discussion regarding fish. Can you direct me to any links specifically on that? I’d be interested in more about that and how folks are adapting tue NSA for fish

You can have a NSA scape and still have plenty of fish hiding spaces just by including (and building) caves at the bases. That is exactly how I set up my current tank.
