Hey guys, on my local facebook page, there was a guy selling his tank setup that I was thinking about purchasing. Here's the description he gave me for it (sorry that the messages might be a bit scrambled and possible repetetive information):

90 gallon reef aquarium, corner drilled internal overflow
8 x 30 bashea protein skimmer
brand new eshopps sump system
x ternal little giant pump
brand new lighting system with 12K and 480 actinic with night lights and built in timers
rio hyper flow pump for protein skimmer
phosphate reactor
carbon reactor
15 w uv sterilizer
everything is plumbed all new with isolation valves for servicing

The refugium it's brand spanking new has never had water, The lighting system is brand-new it has actinic 480 12 K and moonlighting with built in timers on a single cord plug-in,The protein skimmer (bashea 8x 30) that comes with this is a $600 piece of equipment you can research this yourself, I have a phosphate reactor a carbon reactor a UV sterilizer X ternal little giant pump that pump is about 300 bucks to buy mine is brand-new,I plumbed this system as a modular plumbing so everything is very simple to maintain and dismantle if servicing is needed

its a really sweet plumb job! I placed unions strategically so everything is modular as far as disassembly, I have full port isolation valves everything,I have a rio hyper flow pump for the protein skimmer, I have diverter valves for the External little giant pump that flows through UV sterilizer and primary tank. Phosphate reactor has an independent pump sized specifically for the flow rate of this cylinder.

The glass is perfect the stand is flawless there are no scratches whatsoever,I am very meticulous by nature and taking very good care of everything I own.

Basically just wondering if this is a good deal for a full setup, he is asking $1500.

I dont have any experience with that skimmer. a few points. you probably wont like that light setup it doesnt sound very good. All in all i think its too much for that

Thanks for your insight :)! I'll have to ask him what the lighting brand is..

I don't think it is worth it, they seem pretty proud of their tank. I don't like eShop's sumps. The return pump looks OK, but is an external pump really needed for a 90g tank? The UV is undersized and at the wattage probably needs a replacement bulb, which also, at that wattage, begs the question of whether the replacement bulb is worth it. The lighting description leaves a lot to imagination. Is it LED, is it PC and MH? I'm not familiar with Bashea Skimmers, but if it is worth $600 then I'm assuming it is as good as a decent RO skimmer. I would pass it up.

the new eshopps sumps are pretty decent. I just picked up a skimz one myself but I wouldve done eshopps if the price was right

Skimmer good, sump ok, what is the lighting? Thats the big question. 1500 sounds pretty high, i would say maybe a grand if its nice.

I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for it personally (maybe $1200). A lot of that equipment seems gimmicky personally. I bought a 110 with the same kind of gimmicky versions of equipment (a twisted protein skimmer? really?) and over paid and ended up replacing most of the equipment.

I would ask what the lighting brand is, how many bulbs etc... How the overflow is plumbed, anything less than 3 1" holes and I'd knock 200$ off. Basically people expect too much and anyone claiming "they take good care of their stuff" isn't realistic about what the value is.
