Ok Lady's & Gents. today I went to Guana lake. They built a spill way across this marsh flat years ago For some reason. Very good place to fish ! The north ,lake side is very fresh water. salinity today was 1.o8. It's been raining for the past 3 days. Now on the south side of the dam the salinity was 1.020, again I think because of all the rain. so here I collected some sand & sandy half silty. I saw a couple of "big" Horseshoe crabs doing what they do in the spring when love is in the water. I gave them some privacy & on the way out I saw a pair of Manatee's , very cool. These things are big ! Like the cow reference big.
while there I saw some Sargasso weed wash up. There has been a strong South East wind & this is when the stuff gets blown to shore from the Gulf Stream. I got some from the beach This stuff is so cool loaded with all kinds of pod, tiny hermits, crabs etc ! the container now is swimming with pods ! Salinity was 1.026 as advertised .
I also collected some sponge. I'm fairly confident its called " Fire sponge" not "Fire coral" which is illegal to collect. it doesn't grow this far north anyway. I could not find anything the the ornamental collection of this sponge being illegal. I;m serious Folks I won't take it if it's not legal . All the regs said was no more than 5 pieces per day ,no sponges in the Keys.
I got this stuff above the tide line exposed to the air so it must be tough. I'd appreciate any insight on this . If anything I will freeze it & add it to my fish food or save it for a new angel.
OOOH I almost forgot ! This is for
@Paul B I got some nasty looking brown grey clay like mud ! there are weird things growing out of it & all.
