So, I have a 17 gallon tank with an aquaclear 50 that has filter floss and purigen in it. It's been running for 8 months. Along with chaeto and live rock. The chaeto doesn't really grow that fast and I don't know what the small amount of rocks are really adding to the tank.

My live stock is just 2 clowns and a tiger pistol shrimp and a bunch of hermits and snails. About 15 lbs of live rock and sand. I have a lot of corals an one small anemone. Everything is growing well, especially my Zoas and Acans. I changed about 3 gallons every 2-3 weeks. However, when I do the water change, Nitrates are barely at 20ppm. I drop about 5-10 hikari marine pellets every morning and then feed a mixture of rod's food and mysis at night(I'll hikari pellets again if I don't have time to feed frozen.) I will add reef roids or coral frenzy to the food mixture every 3-4 days(about a quarter of a teaspoon.)

Anyways, I added all those details to give you a good idea of the biologicals of the tank. Do you think I can/should elminate the hang on back filter?
