I recently (September 2014) graduated college with a Network Engineering degree. The dream of owning my own saltwater fish tank is getting closer and closer. I have some questions, which may or may not have already been answered here. This would be my first adventure into saltwater. I have owned freshwater tanks, but nothing extravagant.

1) What's a good book to read for beginners like myself?

2) What's the general start-up cost and monthly cost for a 50 gallon tank? I know 1-2 pounds of sand per gallon and the same for live rock if I remember correctly.

3) I have a list of a bunch of species (coral, fish, inverts) that I would like. The main ones being a Blue Dot Jawfish, pair of clownfish, and a variety of shrimp. How do you know which fish will go well together (besides coloration) and which will end up fighting? I know Damsels are usually the bad ones to add so I don't plan on adding them.

4) Its been obvious that besides a tank, equipment needs to be bought or something modified. How do you know when and what to modify? What equipment, besides a skimmer needs to be purchased?
