I have a female blue throat trigger, and she's one of my most favorite fish...with that said, my regal tang completley harrasses her. I was thinking of adding a male, and am curious if anyone has a male/female combo? I don't want it for breeding, that's not why, but more for the colors, as females don't have the yellow. Or, possibly adding a black trigger? My tank is 300 gallons, there's more than enough room. anyone have thoughts, or experience with 2 triggers in the tank?

Not sure, I have a niger right now but am adding a tiny clown next week so I will let you know how that goes

Thanks. I have a blue jaw, and would like another, if not possibly a niger. But...I dont want coral issues, as my tank is 99% acros

Having 2 triggers is definitely a big risk. They're super capable of murder, and conspecifics could end poorly.
that's what I am wondering. Probably I'll stick with just the one. she's pretty sweet, and if the regal would leave her alone, it would be even better

Male blue throats are 100% coral safe, they pose a very slight risk to small shrimp but that's about it. They are not aggressive like other triggers and would be about as peaceful as your current female.
One thing to keep in mind is that smaller male bluethroats look like females, and are often misidentified as such. I'm not sure how a new male would deal with courting your female, since they are usually imported as pairs.

If you're looking for another interesting intelligent beaked fish an aren't willing to take the risk (I agree with Mr_Knightley that blue throats are usually the nicer triggers), an arthon puffer or a porcupine puffer would be fun. They pose similar risks but are unlikely to view each other as conspecifics. Will nibble corals and decimate crustaceans though.

You should be fine either way, whichever is your preference. While there may be a chance for a newly introduced male bluejaw to bond with the female, and become a couple, they could also be indifferent to each other. In reference to the black trigger, the Hawaiian black gets much larger than the Indian black, the Indian is also milder in temperament.

Noted, and Thank You. I am not actually worried about "breeding"them...I just really like the colors. I will probably just stick with what I have, and do something else. I have 16 fish in my 300, and 3 are tangs, with my female trigger. She's about 5 inches...I don't know how old...I've had her a year and 1/2 now..so pretty sure it's a female. sweetest fish I have in the tank!! I may look into Anthias or something like that. I have 5 springeri damsels, which I just love too, but I know I cant have more of those.

yeah...I am 99% acro's so I dont want that lol! I like the puffers too, they always have such big personalities!
