My clam is showing an extra hole above its inhalant siphon.

Should I be worried?

Apologies - not the best pic. Clam doesnt open much.

Injury to the mantle will heal. The third hole is an injury or tissue breakdown. As long as the clam is doing well it should heal with no scar or problem.

Well, it should only have 2 holes.
Shine a flashlight on it and take another pic.
These blue pictures.... Can't see anything. I mean, I am not beside you, I don't see your tank other than the pic you present.

Can you take a picture under white light.

Can't see much in that photo.

Appreciate the response. Here is an image under white light

Hopefully, fingers crossed. I just got it a few days ago.

New clams can exhibit “gaping” which is completely normal, but should subside in a few days. It’s rare, but clams can have an extra exhalent siphon, but most likely an injury or possibly a bite from a fish? True gaping is serious, so keep an eye on it and see if anything changes? Double check parameters as well. How long did you acclimate the clam to your tank?

I have to agree.
OP, was this shipped like this or you picked it up in person?

As a beginner clam buyer, I have to admit I should’ve done more research before purchasing it. After reading up, I realised I didn’t know a lot about clams!

I didn’t inspect the mouth as closely as I should. The shop lights were very blue.

I also committed the sin of just dropping the clam in straight.

If you haven’t do so already, but James Fatherree’s book, it’s great for all clam keepers. Clam book

My derasa gaped for a few days after purchase.
It can just be an adjustment.
Could anything have pecked at it?
They are strange things & if happy surprisingly resilient in my experience but can go downhill slowly without any sudden signs.
Mine had a few tears from my copperband which healed very quickly.

After 6 days, I'm happy to report that the third hole is slowly closing up.

The clam shifted more towards the right hence the slight blur in the image.
