Third time better be the charm

Do it! Fill it with rock and turn it into a cryptic zone. No light needed. Or, plant a forest of mangroves in a remote DSB.

So I have this (see above) taking up space and being used as a catch all in the

Maybe hold on to it so if an emergency happens that requires you to remove everything you have a place to move to? I have one in the shed that I had to buy when I had a velvet outbreak a few years back. I was able to house all the livestock (fish) from my 180g for a few months while I fallowed the tank and healed the fish I was able to save.
Catch alls are nice to have too, I have entirely too many of those lol

I think if you put cheato in it and let it grow to fill the tub you would not have any nitrate and phosphate problems. Since you got it I would use it
I never thought of that. That is one heck of a good idea. Could house a lot of chaeto.

can you make the tub your sump and the 40 a frag tank?

I've seen pics of them as sumps and they look pretty slick. Someone even makes sock and plumbing holders for them that I've seen.

or the tub what styx said. or rock left, fuge right.
I could. That would just require removing the baffles from the 40g sump. If the tub converts to the sump tho that's a more "permanent" situation. I was hoping to have it a bit more flexible so in the event I did have an out break of something I could still use the tub as a qt. I guess I still could tho.........would need moar rock either way.
I could also put the damsel from the office tank in the tub vs the alternative I was considering.
Can't put the tub where the sump is now. Floor Jack's in the way.

So I have this (see above) taking up space and being used as a catch all in the basement. I was thinking it may be time to do something with it. Maybe connect it in (not permanently) to the existing 40g sump? But question is, would the work be worth the extra water volume? Thinking out loud....
I would need to extend the drain lines to dump in this vs sump (simple fix, but how to hang them?) may need another heater (have one), pump and PVC to run from tub to sump (have a Danner I never used, but its external, non controllable and maybe too much)....
Would have to shift mixing station over and get another "stand" (have the stand top part would just need 4 more cinder blocks). Light if used as a refugium (already have an old chinese black box just need to clean it up and hang it). What else am I missing?

Side shot. Rubbermaid would go where mixing station is now and mixing station would move down to the corner where the old QT tank is.

You can always "tee" off a ball valve and throttle it. The more the valve is open, the less goes upstairs AND you get more flow in the stock tank?

If you make a lot of mistakes then maybe lol.. it will make your system more forgiving for sure in that sense but on the other hand it’s more dosing and chemicals and salt to change and keep stable. For me personally the only way I would implement something like that on my tank is to hold rock so I can have very little In my display for a cleaner look… then comes my fish problem! Haha.. they need places to live and hide so I’ve never done it myself.

All I saw was so much space for activities! Dang. I'm living in a house with 1000sf and no basement. I wish I had that basement space. Ah the tanky goodness I could get away with......

I have no real suggestions to do with that stock tank though. I'm not helpful.

I would totally set that bad boy up...

sump for 180 ,what Danner do you have not submersible ?

I feel you. We (4 of us at the time) used to live in a 900 sf mobile home. Now we have a large 1100sf ranch lol. But we do have an unfinished basement. It's full of crap but it's crap I would not be able to keep without a basement and I loves to keep lots of crap :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

I thought crap came naturally on a ranch... Especially an 1100 sf ranch. :thinking-face: ;)

No actual crap that's just how my Gal refers to my stuff lol. No actual ranch either just a ranch style house :winking-face:. My parents live two houses down tho and have chickens. We get fresh eggs like this for $1 a dozen :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
