Correct yes which also means you get to get that QT cycling... Call the FF qt a trial run for a larger onslaught later.

Qt is up and running with some live and dry rock as we speak. Added some ammonia but not much. Wanted to get the domino damsel out of the 180g to cycle it but that has been an adventure in itself. So gonna stop at the lfs on my way back from diving and grab a couple chromis to start it for real. Gonna test it today to see where the levels are but I used all new water so if there ni maybe we will be good to go with what the live rock had on it. If not gonna use a prodibio.

My magnificus was the first fish to go in. I got it in I believe a week after the Cycle had finished. I have had him with every coral type, NPS, Softies, Mushrooms, LPS, SPS and I haven’t caught him nipping.



Two Barred Rabbitfish remain smaller than most non Foxface Rabbits. I think you would be alright. They get a similar size to Siganus unimaculatus and Siganus uspi. Topping off at 10 inches in the wild however fish seem to only get to 80% of their wild size in captivity.

Thanks for the info! Would just an average run of the mill plain Jane foxface be OK? I apologize I don't know the scientific name. I love the magnificent just thinking about ease of procurement.

the reg foxy is more apt to eat coral in the long run, mags are great ,bicolor may be little easier to source.

Oh good to know just thought hardy, cheap and readily available. But I could use a wrasse or blenny and then transfer it to the main tank once the qt has cycled. Both are on my fish list anyway thanks!!!

I wouldn’t recommend starting with a wrasse as if you get the wrong one at the start you may screw yourself for mixing them in the future. Ideally the wrasses should be more researched into it.
Also with blennies they can be coral nippers so you will want to be more weary about that.

Awesome thanks! Tonight is research time. I had a tail spot blenny in my office tank and loved it. For some reason wrasses scare me, so they are closer to the bottom of the list aka last. Maybe @Mibu and her sand spitting ones have turned me off.

I am so sorry. They turned me off from wrasses too. But the bright side, not one flasher or fairy ever spat on my coral.
I lost everyone to a starfish, or jumping.

There's one thing to remember about some wrasses. They can't handle being alone. They absolutely hate it.

That’s interesting to hear that you had sand spitters, I assume they were Halichoeres?
I only have one that moves sand and it’s my Halichoeres chloropterus but he never seems to get it on the coral.

H. Melanurus rehomed. H. leucoxanthus she is 2" and is kicking up sand, now spitting sand middle of the tank. She learned it from my melan. Im sure of it

I may sound nuts. I can't help but think fish in qt die from depression. When I put my melanuras in the 60g by himself, he shut down. He would peak once in awhile, but for a few days, he wouldn't move.

Husband asked me whats going on with him and why was he in the 60g. I told my husband, he's lonely and he's going to Flora. He took us to Flora that weekend. He couldn't stand seeing the melanuras looking like that.

After he added the melanuras to his reef, it was moments before he was swimming around again. Scopas tang and cleaner wrasse checked him out.

I have never qt'd before. But for the $$$ I'm looking at spending for the fish and the fact I had the old tank anyway thought maybe give it a try. Other option is getting qt'd fish from mr.reef who I have heard good things about. One of my lfs run hypo and copper in their system. The other runs low not hypo and has individually plumbed systems which never made any sense to me. But they say they can treat individual tanks if needed and they don't share water.

If you look at @Lost in the Sauce his qt has all kinds of fish in there. OMG they look happy. You think it was a reef already.

TSM has Foxface Lo S. Vulpinus in QT and is ready to go next week. I have always had good luck with them. I usually still observe it for a little bit before adding it to my DT.

Preliminary fish list in no particular order.

Now I can't lose the list bc it's in my pictures.
Also tested qt for ammonia and nitrate.
So far so good.

Heading out to drop the boys at their dads, then the final round of gha removal (for now) then get things ready to load for the weekend.
Hopefully I can grab some fun pics to give @Mibu an idea of what land locked divers do when they cant go somewhere warm to play.
