Again, Cipro is not my go-to first line treatment for a number of different reasons, and I generally do not ever reccomend dosing antibiotics directly into a DT unless it is an absolute emergency. The exception being when treating Heteractis sp. For V. vulnificus auto innoculation. That being said, the dose is the dose in SW, regardless of the critter.

The thing about treating a DT is that, once you start antibiotics, you aren't just fighting what is infecting your critters. Every, and I mean EVERY one of our tanks has a host of nasty bugs such as V. vulnificus, A. hydrophila, group A strep, etc. You want to make sure that you kill that, too. Otherwise you ultimately end up inadvertently brewing a soup of antibiotic resistant superbugs. Trust me on this...

The bigger danger, IMO, is crashing the biofilter. Though there are many far more knowledgeable than myself that feel that that isn't too much of a concern when dosing a DT. I remain skeptical.

Dose is a big factor. As long as the mechanism is relevant to the bug's metabolism or replication, pumping up the dose will eventually kill it (and a lot of other stuff). So, I'm *imagining* that a low dose DT treatment like the author of the BJD treatment thread suggests, won't knock out everything. I have no idea if ammonia oxidizing and nitrite oxidizing bacteria have the same DNA gyrases that are targeted by cipro in typical human pathogens--although I *imagine* they are highly conserved even between these very different bacteria. I do a lot of *imagining* because I can't be bothered to pull the papers myself :~)

I *imagine* that you are largely correct. I still maintain that antibiotic treatment in general, but flouroquinalone treatment especially, in the DT is one of last resort, because low dose treatment is not sufficient to avoid antibiotic resistance in what can infect humans. Also, through water changes, it needs to be dumped and subsequently introduced into our waste water.

about crashing the whole bio filter is my concern. I was graciously given some tabs of cipro today by @Aqua62 along with some other awesome goodies. I am holding them in reserve in the event anything else shows issues.

I'm in favor of adding bleach to water change waste up to 10% for half an hour before dumping!

OK so the haul was massive. I will say that the coolest thing is something I have been on the look out for for a while now. I spent way to much but I HAD TO HAVE IT. Chandler Rocks Aquascaping. Beautiful stuff.

Then with my winning gift card I got a Darwin Clown for the main display to replace Bonnie, and a Mocha clown to put up in the office tank. Pics of them soon.
Then for the corals.
Cherry corals (my favorite) grabbed a Tsa Bill Murry and a Cc Mai Tai. From Camero ended up with 2 zoas, a goni, a favia and a Tgc surprise attack. Then my stuff off reef trader and @Aqua62.
Better pix soon. At mans house tonight utterly exhausted.

I’ve used cipro a couple times, but only after seeing signs of BJD on my Euphyllids or Gonis , both of whom seem to the most likely to get it. I do have some that I got as back up for emergencies and chemiclean as well. I’m actually doing a run of chemi as we speak. Never had any negative issues with either but yeah I try not to use them unless absolutely necessary.
