The rest of the article seemed legit. But does anyone actually do this??

Vodka dosing was a thing before carbon dosing

Essentially it is like disinfecting the tank, with my understanding, it might work with reducing readable nitrates but you're probably killing off more than you aim to, including the immune system of your fish. A cheap shot of alcohol never solves problems in the long run whether you are taking it yourself or giving it to your tank, haha!

vodka dosing is carbon dosing. It's usually vodka and vinegar now. sugar used to be in the recipe, but that's not needed.

be careful as the bacteria bloom it triggers can crash Nitrates to zero causing bigger problems

Yep if your want to start I recommend starting with vinegar first it’s not As potent as vodka

I don't think that's how it works. It's an organic form of carbon which feeds bacteria in your water column that synthesizes NO3. The bacteria flocculates which then can be removed by the skimmer

Nope.

It's actually feeding the bacteria, causing them to grow in numbers. Bacteria need Nitrogen and Phosphorus as a percentage of their dry weight. The extra bacteria are then removed by your protein skimmer, removing the sequestered N and P

there are threads that reproduce NOPOX with vinegar and vodka, i'll have to look it uop, but there is a benefit to to using both.

This is not how it works. It feeds other bacteria that can break down the no3. It doesn’t disinfect anything. Best to do a search and find out proper information. It’s counter productive to give advice that is 100% Incorrect.

This is the nopox clone

Thanks but no use telling me, I would not use the method, I remember it from many years ago though.
