I made two mistakes when I set up my new tank:

Not pre-glueing rocks
Adding a YWG/Shrimp

My before stable rock work is now a mess (no casualties) but I want to ensure this doesn’t happen again..

J-B Weld 8277 WaterWeld Epoxy Putty Stick - 2 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BRQ0TW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gaVzCb45B11QT

Is this reef safe or will it leach something harmful for inverts, corals and fish?

I have used this before in small amounts to attach frags, and had no issues. It will make a skimmer go nuts for a bit if used in large amounts.

Thanks! How long for it to set?

Planning to take all wet rock out and then epoxy together

Just a question but if you take all of your live rock out of water, then put it back, won’t it cause a “mini-cycle”? I know that the longer it’s out of water, the more bacteria will die off plus you will likely loose a lot of pods. Just not sure how long it can ALL be out of the tank before it causes problems.

For future reference, place the rock in the tank first and then add sand. This will add another layer of protection against the rock shifting in the aquarium as critters bury under it. I wouldn't be concerned with a mini-cycle; heck, our sand sat in five gallon buckets for 2.5 days when we moved and we had no issues.

I used eggcrates on my last tank, which worked - thought I would go a different route This time doh
