This fish - Good grief

Shockingly, I had a male starry red scooter in my 20 who was the biggest *******. He eventually ended up in the sump of the big system before being traded in. He would terrorize the clowns and the firefish especially. None of the other red scooters I've kept over the years have shown aggression like this fish.

Coral beauty angelfish.
I had to start a whole new tank just for the fish he brutalized.
Absolutely no fear. Never seen anything like it. I have him in with a trigger five times his weight class-no problem.
I keep thinking he's at the end of his lifespan but he's 6 now I think and still the ******* he ever was!

Mine is a model citizen but ive heard of bad ones. When getting too old, they look rough sort of like dropsy with rough scales, less appetite then its downhill.

I have been reefing long enough I know to Never ever put a damsel in my peaceful reef.. let alone a devil damsel. A friend was getting rid of fish for free. A yellow tang , 2 clowns and 2 damsels. I took them to give to another friend starting his first reef. Of course I kept the yellow tang but plan was to give him the others. Long story short. One of the blue and yellow damsels jumped into my reef from a holding container about 3 months ago.
This lil ******* took a bite and killed my Dalmatian clown and yesterday spooked my 5 year old snowflake clown to he point he jumped out of tank and I found
Him on the floor. $400 pair of mated clowns wiped out by a $5 damsel.
Now how to get this lil ******* out is the question !!!

Fish trap - Bait it with its favorite food and allow him to go in and eat day 1 and day 2. Day 3 let the string go and he will be caught

Green Chromis. Once he was done with his own kind he had my MAROON clown pinned in an upper corner ripping off fin. Never thought I would see something like that. A Maroon? In a basketball sized LTA? I had to tear down 70 percent of the tank to get it. When trying to catch it it never made the same mistake twice. The bright side was my tank needed some deep cleaning and a new rock arrangement. Will never buy another.

Domino Damsel. Great little fish. Terrible big fish. Easy to catch. Rather stupid fish. Will never buy another.

Blue Damsel. Yellow bottom. Ripped the gills out of my Starry Blenny right in front of my face. Even after they had been in the same tank for nearly a year with zero signs of aggression. Took me 6 days to get him to chase food into an hour glass shaped vase. Rock removal was not an option. He still roams the frag tank though. Great fish for a frag tank.

Powder Blue Tang. Put a Desjardini Sailfin Tang in the tank and the PB went right after it. Really aggressive biting. Even after 2 days in an acclimation box. PB was sent to the frag tank and 6 months later reintroduced to the DT. Now they are like best friends.

All my Tangs are now best friends. Purple. Yellow. PB. Sailfin. They swim in a group. Always together. There is some rare rubbing but they get along.

Possum Wrasse

He took out the first two fish I had in the tank with him. The first was introduced at the same time as him. The first finned livestock. Next fish lasted 5 days.

I addressed this by putting 3 stand your ground fish at the same time. Two fang blennies and a dottyback.

The dotty back and possum wrasse fought all the time but it usually looked like a draw most times. But I had witnessed the wrasse power charge move once and thought he ended it all right there, but the dottyback just brushed it off and they continue their dance at different times of the day. Everyone eats, goes about their business like you would expect. No hiding in corners of tank or anything. Both mean to be honest.

Fighting seemed regular Friday. Both fish had some visible love taps. Especially the wrasse, a large injury to his side. I was almost concerned about him, then i remembered he is possessed or something. Everyone ate fine as i left for weekend.

Monday morning no sign of dottyback. The wrasse’s injury is like it never happened. Not visible at all. Possum wrasse adds another notch. Undertaker cleanup crew never talk.

Mystery Wrasse...this little guy beats up everything except my tangs. Trying to catch him now to put him in QT.
Haha, reading this thread, although I rarely chime in, felt the need to as I currently have a mystery wrasse in a 40g breeder qt w a marine betta, sailfin tang and longnose hawk.... he doesn't care a bit about the first two but chases the longnose constantly; during feeding time, he is less interested in eating mysis and more interested in making sure the longnose doesn't eat.... this is ironic as this is a replacement mystery to my first who was bullied to death in my 125g reef by a yellow hog fish before i could catch either fish.... re-enforces different fish of the same species can have different personalities/ temperaments.... ohhh, and this current wrasse was introduced last so that is not a factor....

We all take our chance and acquire a fish that should fit in well. Every once in a while, we get a fish that does not work out and become your tank nightmare causing grief.
In the past mine has been Sohal tang and a passer angel. Currently and to my surprise, its my dussomieri tang which is growing quickly and becoming a jerk. Occasionally its my Desjardini sailfin tang also growing quickly.

Which fish do you have that is terrorizing your tank and how?
What measures have you taken to cope with it?

I have placed the dussomieri in an acclimation box twice- Last time for 2 weeks and it just goes right back to it. Other has been the Powder Blue tang

I have a gorgeous Lightening Maroon Clown that is a total jerk. He (now she) was the runt until my primary female, Ginger, died. Now he/she is growing rapidly and will probably have to go. As I said, she could be a show winner, but she's obnoxious.

Ah yes. . . the ones that like to bite your fingers!

Brunneus wrasse wiped out fish 5x his size. He would dart like a cannonball and smash into the sides of fish. Murdered about $600 worth of fish before I could catch and get store credit for him.
I got the short end of that deal.

Never knew that fairy was that aggressive!

Yellow tang - in my tanks about 15 years. Decides to go to war (and the other tangs then jump in) with another tang about twice per year (usually, my black tang). With mirrors, new terrain, lots of food, I have been able to stop the fighting with no fish losses in years (for established fish)... but he has killed off 6 or 8 other tangs in the past, before I knew how to handle it.

The last NEW tang I tried to put in the tank lasted one day. Most recent addition, clown trigger, seems to be just fine.

They are best in groups. At one time my yellows were Uninviting but they all have calmed down and dont care less about new arrivals

Another one for me was red coris wrasse. What a gorgeous fish but it flipped every single rock and frag over daily in search of food
Good to know! That was one of my next fish.
