I woke up this morning to find my clownfish, the first saltwater fish I purchased when I got into this hobby 2 years ago, dead. Also my purple firefish that I have had for over a year died. My IM20 Peninsula is totally crashed. I didn't think losing an animal would hurt so much, but I put so much time and effort and love and money into keeping her alive...I'm completely devastated.

I didn't have time to do anything but remove the bodies before heading to work so I can't really provide any info, but I really need to get it out there. I got in NoPox this week and had dosed the suggested amount for the past two days, but that's what I assume is the culprit. I saw that BRS recommends starting out by dosing half the suggested amount at the beginning, and was going to switch to that dosing amount today, but I didn't get the chance.

I still have my IM40 up and running, but even that tank has a case of Brown Jelly Disease that's working its way through the 10-12 different types of Hammers and Octospawn that I spent the past 2 years collecting.

I'm going to shut down the 20 gallon for a while and just maintain the 40 gallon with what I have.

Do you have a protien skimmer running on the tank? Carbon dosing can lead to lower oxygen levels via increased bacteria but I dont think the reaction would happen this quickly.

Sorry for your loss and frustration. Please post specifics when you get home tonight about your system and parameters. Unless you grossly overdosed no pox I would doubt this alone was your culprit.
Again, sorry.
PS, this hobby does not suck. It can just be a challenge sometimes..:(

Sorry to hear about your losses. I really take it hard when I lose a coral, invert or fish. I'm sure to some that seems silly, but I'm also attached and completely understand. I was talking to my wife this morning about how well things were going in my cube and how devastated I would be if it crashed. My 65 has finally turned a positive corner for the past few months, so introducing two more corals this week. Anyway, sorry to hear this...

So sorry to hear that. You need to do a water test. Either do it yourself or take the sample to the pet store to get it checked..

Sorry about your situation. This hobby is such a bunch of extremes. The thrill when you find success and the pain in failure. Keep your head up and know you aren’t alone. Most of us have been there at some point.
This is probably one of the best responses I have ever read here on R2R !!

Sorry for your loss. But don’t be hard on yourself ,this is hard hobby , you did a challenging task for years. Your grit is real.

With time things will heal, we are here to help you out anyway we can.

Sorry to hear that. I would do a water test to see what went wrong or take it to your local fish store so they can test it.

This hobby is best likened to walking a razors edge. Doesn't take much to push it off ..... from either side. Strive for stability, and be resistant to adding anything, and you'll be successful more often that unsuccessful.
