here's an updated shot of two of the mother colonies I have.....growth was pretty intense for a while, but it has noticeably slowed down these days. I bet the growth was spurred by my constant fragging during the summer ;)

I have a third mother colony in my display (the two above are in my frag tank), and it's doing the most unusual thing....it's growing what looks like a FOOT! that is, I beleive it's in the process of self-propagation...i'll try and snap a pic of it this evening...it's wild!

k, someone on RC named Sanjay (I dunno if it's that lighting guy) just posted in my thread that he knows for sure it is an efflatounaria....he has the same exact coral (and he posted pics...see here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1122282&perpage=25&pagenumber=2)

..he mentioned one of the defining traits of efflatounarias is that they grow a foot (or stolon) as their method for propagating....cool!

and lo and behold....one of my mother colonies is growing a FOOT! woohoo we have a positive ID!

here's that big foot!

Come to your new Dada ....:marv !!!

lol....your frag is ready to go!....we gotta link up soon

thats cool that you finally got a positive id
so hard to come by sometimes

true enough!....it's even tougher here in Canada....we don't have that many coral IDs experts here that i know of...which is sorta odd b/c we have boatloads of amazingly wierd corals that come in all the time...

.. having someone like Sanjay confirm it for me goes a long way in helping to clear the air on this particular piece.....phew! :)

nice piece!....looks pretty slick.....does yours pullse at all?

funny you should post that pic....I have another Xeniid that resembles yours, but the colour is more yellow-ish/beige...it came as a hitchhiker on a z. gigantus rock from Bali..

....the cool thing is that is grows like a machine...at almost pest-like levels...thus, I keep it strictly in a corner of my frag tank.....i'm scared ****less I won't be able to control it if starts to run over the live-rock...in fact, i've kept it up next to the glass, away from any rocks and it's already shooting numerous arms up the glass!!! eeeek!
