I was looking at some zoas I have and I noticed that a frag I have had for a few months now has some white fungus or something. Its on 1 poly and only 1 poly that I have. I am confused on why its on the frag after being in the tank 2-3 months. I have only seen it on this 1 poly, I am hoping its just poo. How should I dip these guys? All I have at home is kents iodine and that's pretty much it, I would order something but I am going out of town in a few days. I haven't added anything to the tank in over a month or 2, how does this stuff just start happening?

Hey Dave

Can you get us a picture? I know Furan2 is good for bactrial and fungus issues with zoas and palys. It also works on zoa pox, I have used it myself a few times.

I can try and get you a pick after work tomorrow, its really small but I will do my best :) Any idea what causes this?

Alot of times it the fungus if that is what it is has been there on the frag or rock that the polyp is on but good parameters and healthy polyps can fight it off or keep it at bay. Sometimes it just happens, the only other way is to cut off the polyp before it can spread. I would intially take a cap full or 3 of the Kents iodine and some tank water and dip it for about 15m. Not usre on the concentration of the Kents iodine, I have used it before but that was for intial dips and not really sure if it will work on fungus if that is what it is. I would prefer you to get Furan2 as that is an anti-fungal medication. But right now use what you got first, then if you see no improvement the go for the Furan2. Like I said these things can just happen at times. I have lost many a frag for unknown reasons.....

I wasn't able to dip the zoas before I went out of town. I have the Furan2 now, its the powder packs, how much should I add to the water? I am also going to go ahead and dip them in Lugol's Solution. Would it be ok to add them both at the same time? Thanks again for the reply :)

I wouldn't do it at the same time, I would do the iodine first then the Furan2. If it is the capsules or powder packs both I think are good for 10g per pack. I add the whole thing to about a half gallon of tank water for the furan2 and let it dissolve. You might have to mix it a bit. This will make a high concentrated solution and let the frags or colonies sit for about 20 min. Do this three times over a three day period. Then let them sit for a week, if you see no improvement then do it again the same way. Don't be surprised if the tissue of the polyps get a blue dyed look to them that is the meds and it will wear off.....I also have a few cups of tank water to rinse them in before re-adding them to the tank. I have not noticed a issue with some of the frags still having the dip water on them but I rinse just to be safe.....
