This is it. My last build thread

Just watch the electric surge plugs when changing filters.
Ya that one is just for the powerheads in the mixing brute. The booster pump was plugged in temporarily. Thanks for noticing.
Now that I have some tapcons I think I'll mount a decent power strip up high and to the left.

Non reef related bonus. This guy was crossing our road yesterday. Wasn't quite big enough for soup.

Bonus #2 The black and white photo contest got me reminiscing. This is one of my favorite shots. My daughter was holding one of my twin granddaughters, her niece. It wasn't a posed shot. I just happened to look over as the sun was hitting them. Didn't have phones with good cameras back then but I always had my dslr with me.

Thanks for stopping by.

Well I decided to have another try at getting the CBBs to pair /bond. Looking at them both I'm still thinking one is male and the other female but we'll see. I decided to try an acclimation box this time. I should have have the first time but live and learn. I was having trouble finding a magnetic acclimation box for 3/4" glass. Thanks to @tzabor10 for suggesting a reptile carrier from a pet store.

$15 at petsmart. Melted a few holes in it for flow using a piece of metal tubing heated with a torch. 80lb fishing line to lift it out if needed

A few in holes in the top so I can squirt food in.

So far so good. The other one is spending quite a bit of time down there. The one in the box is still eating after the move. I feed the box first and the other fish eat the food that comes out of the holes. I figure this should help the new guy get used to eating with the other fish around. I'm not sure how long to leave it in the box. I'm thinking at least a week. Hopefully it will work out this time. I would really love a pair of CBB.

Bonus non reef related content. I had no idea some wasps were carnivores. At least I think they are a type of wasp. We were grinding dog food the other day and I saw this wasp on a chunk of raw pork. I thought it might have been sucking moisture out but it was actually cutting off chunks of meat and flying away with it, I assume to take it back to the hive. I found it pretty interesting. Brought back memories of when I was into macro photography.

Think maybe should add a square of styrofoam to float box, or raise to surface and attach ,can fish drown ?
never tried it that way ... :upside-down-face:

Never thought about TBH. But now that you mention I think when I use a magnetic acclimation box I do have the lid at the water surface. Off to raise it up, at least untill I can look into. Err on the side of caution. Thanks for the heads up.

Congrats on the new pretty. I use a similar acclimation box it really works well.
Yes hornets aka yellow jackets are a pita for beekeepers. They get in the hive and eat the larvae that haven't been capped yet.

I normally deal with them but this was too interesting not to watch. My German Shepherd eats them. He'll snatch em right out of the air.
I saw a movie named The Beekeeper with Jason Stathom. It didn't have a lot of beekeeping in the movie but he had a way of dealing with the wasps. Good flick if you like action, violence and a thirst for veangence?

Oh before I forget. When you use the acclimation box do you fully submerge it or have the lid at the surface?

I left the lid accessible at the surface used some zip ties and a dowel rod.
@MrsBugmaster any tips?

I have it at the top (at the surface or slightly above) so I can get food in easier. Otherwise food seems to float away and not go down into acclimate box

I was able to get food in low with a baster and an extention. I didn't realize it but there is a concern with low oxygen if the box is down on the bottom and not enough flow through it.
I feed mostly frozen and feed the box first. All the other fish come over and try get to get the food. It seems to be helping the new CBB go after food with other fish competing tho they really aren't. The CBB in the tank comes over and gets food inside the box through the holes. I think this is a really good idea using this type of box.

Well so far so good reintroducing the 2nd CBB this time around. I think the acclimation box made all the difference. I took the lid off last night and let the box sit on the rocks. The established CBB went into the box and swam around for a bit then they both came out
PXL_20241009_000841609.jpg

This morning they still seem good together. No nipped fins and both of them ate breakfast with the tang gang this morning.
Fingers crossed it works this time

Both of the CBBs have been going into the box so I think I'll leave it in for a few days.

They've been hunting after lights out. Early am they had bedded down in separate parts of the tank. I'm optimistic but ya never know, things can south in an instant.

In wholesale we used containers to separate fish, and I would suggest that you drill more holes
Can never have too many but I think there was enough on this one. I have 2 rows of 1/2" on each side and ends along with holes in the bottom. The top is above the water line also. I did have the box on the bottom but was advised it should be raised so the top was above the water surface for oxygenation.
