This is probably the dumbest decision I've ever made

A few weeks ago I was out shopping for fish to add to my new tank and out of all fish i could've bought. I bought a raccoon butterflyfish which threw a wrench in my plans to create a soft coral heaven, although I do have a toadstool coral in the tank and he hasn't touched it. should I add coral in the future? I really don't know what to do?!

HA! I just made the same mistake. Great minds...screw up alike? Wait. That doesn't sound right.

I threw some acros in there recently and it attacked the super glue the first half hour then gave up.

I have to buy a hammer coral for the wife and we will see how that goes. I figure of it acts a fool, it gets traded in.

Welcome to R2R and to the club of "Not Researching Before Buying"!

Did the LFS person not ask you questions? More specifically about the tank the fish was going in?

I would put corals in and see what happens. I’m gonna take some risks myself when I stock my new tank.

I think there is a lot of ‘reefing lore’ that in the coming years may need some adjusting. Perhaps through generous feeding and correct nutrition some species could be kept peacefully in a reef tank with less risk to our corals. There are already no shortage of examples where non reef safe fish are living in reef tanks with minimal issues.

They rarely do around here

Just feed the fish what it likes to eat and all will be fine. So you might buy a few extra corals for it. Shopping for corals is fun yes?

That's really sad! It's a basic and integral part of customer service. Then again, customer service is just a shadow of it's former self in many aspects!
