No, doubt that hurt the coral. Although I don‘t have candy canes, my other LPS do close up for a while if they grab a piece of food. But personally I wouldn’t target feed if you have fish. If you must feed your corals I’d stick with something more natural than pellets or flakes. I use Rods to feed my fish and the corals get the left over food and then the coral get fish poop too.
