Hey guys, as some of you have seen I am getting back in the salt after about 10 years. I picked up a Fluval Profile 1000 tank, stand and fluval 305 filter, used from marketplace, it even had the original owner's manual with it. It is drilled for drain and returns, has two, 2 bulb t5 light fixtures, two hob skimmers, a 250-watt heater and various other parts and test kits. I have about 2 inches of water in it now to verify it is watertight, Ill slowly add more all day until full.
Plans:
I want to add a sump so I picked up a 20 g long sump from my LFS. I am considering plugging the current bulkheads and drilling it the back for a beanimal style overflow, it's what I used before. But part of me thinks adding a weir around the current lines would help get the surface movement needed without sinking too much into this tank. I am looking at about a 1000gph return pump and am researching between a protein skimmer and an algae scrubber. I just remembered I have pictures of my old system on a old laptop, Ill see if I can get them off of it and post them up. But here is what 250$ bought me the other day, oh and about 50lbs of base rock.
