This might be a dumb question

I have a lid over my ato ro water but it doesnt cover all the container maybe a cm to half a centimetre around the edges theres a gap will evaporation mostly go through this gap or will it all evaporate equally significantly reducing evaporation

Evaporation will happen from the surface area of the water pretty much straight up. So the evaporation should mostly go against the lid. I don't think evaporation of ato ro water will happen a lot, since it's not heated. But if you live in a hot area or have a warm house it might happen more. But I don't think it should be much of a problem in most situations.

Its air/moisture transfer that will cause evap to leave the container. Bigger opening = more circulation = more loss
