This Petco shouldn't be allowed to have fish :(

I stopped by Petco on my way home from work just to take a look and I couldn't believe the state of these fish, and they had so much cyano in their tanks it was disgusting.
I wasn't even in the market for a sailfin or clown tang but I couldn't let them be beat to death. Look at the state of this poor guy. I know to these employees they are only fish but its still a living thing what the heck! It makes me so mad.

Definitely should keep care of fish better! Also title is a bit over the top, I know people who have petcos that are amazing! No hate but THAT Petco should have fish!

This whole snafoo was brought up last week about Petcos operation practices from what I have heard/read the employee's hands are tied when it comes to treatment of fish. They have to follow the corporate SOPs as do the managers.

It is sad

Fair enough, I cant speak on all petcos, can you edit titles? I should of said "This Petco"

In that case a lot of “reefers” shouldn’t either. Some of the tanks/fish I’ve seen smh

The best way to get it better is to ask to see the manager, jf they give you the run around call corporate. Don’t be a jerk, just let them know the issue. Remember their hands are tied with a lot of care practices, and getting the person in charge of fish in trouble will likley lead to worse conditions. Easier to teach than to rebuild and all that jazz

The tanks also usually are jammed with LR.
Small tank and a stressed fish trying to hide will get tore up quick in the rocks.

The fact remains though that Petco as a whole is downright lazy about caring for marine fish. The good Petco's are the results of dedicated individual employees who make a real effort to do it right. Sadly due to the crappy pay, etc. few of these folks are kept long term. The point is that it is on Petco to do a better job to fix their stores to be more consistent in Marine Care.

He was with 3 big naked clowns and a 6 line wrasse, that I could see. The 3 clowns looked pretty aggressive not sure why as I thought clowns are pretty calm for the most part. They could have moved him cause he was getting beat up who knows.

I have not seen a well run aquatics department at any petco in SW Michigan. The prices are good but I cannot bring myself
to purchase one

Everyone complaining about petco needs to come see the LFS where I live. One place has been nicknamed as refugee camp in my reef club.

There is a popular thread on here titled something like “petco rescue”. Worth a read. Loads of replies and quite an older thread.

Just an updated on the sailfin I got from petco, He is doing a lot better. A little TLC goes a long way. His fins are growing back nicely also. Its cool cause he always comes right up to the glass when he sees me now.
