I could use HELP, PLEASE?. Bring up a 40 gallon breeder bare bottom targeted as SPS dominant. Am about 35 days into the cycle. Used MARCO ROCKS dry rock and was able to get a few pieces of coralline covered rock to help seed the tank. I used RESEA Reef Mature and was pleasantly surprised. I had one small diatom (brown algae) bloom about 12 days into the process (in line with READSEA Reef Mature processes) that is almost gone. Now am seeing green film algae on the glass and a good dusting on the bare rock. PH = 8.3, ALK 10.3, MG = 1360, Phosphates = .25, Nitrates = .75, Calcium = 320 (working on slowly raising up to approximately 420+). Running 6x39 ATI T5 for 6 hours at maximum of 80% but will reduce down to 3 hours. #2. Is it normal for the green film algae to be present and what is the best way to keep in check or eradicate (I had received information that dosing per? #3. Will the coralline eventually overgrow/cover the green film algae? I have attempted to "scrub" a test piece of rock with no apparent change with a stiff plastic bristled brush). Any insights and/or recommendations on what I could do to improve tank will be appreciated. I don't want to not take action and pay for it later down the road. Thanks in advance!!!! JFF

The green film algae is going to occur as the tank matures. After my cycle, I turned on my lights and everything turned green in a couple of days! A good CUC is now in order to start bringing that algae inline. As for the coralline...just let nature run its course. You've seeded the tank with coralline, so it will spread when the water parameters are correct for it to spread. Just give it some time...but, get a CUC in there soon to combat the expected algae blooms coming.

Thank you.

CUC was introduced about a week ago and hopefully they will focus on the rock.
