Got your attention didn't I?? I do have a smelly question for you guys. I have a beautiful 1oo gallon build set up in the foyer area as you walk into my kitchen. This build has a reef octopus skimmer. The cabinet that the sump tank sets in is usually left closed to cut out noise. This leads me to the problem. .

Every time I open the door I get that all familiar smell. I don't have a huge house. What do you guys use to keep the smell at bay. I want to stay away from aerosol as much as I can for obvious reasons. Would a box of baking soda work? Any help would be appreciated and sorry about the tag line, had to grab attention. . I LOVE THIS FORUM!!

This shot is daily, cleaned it less than 24 hours ago. I have 7 fish and I'm still working on feeding habits so the bio load is changing daily as well.

Should I run it in the sump or the overflow box?

In the sump will work by chance do you have a reactor?
Carbon will help with the smell

No reactor, I will try the carbon today. I may even get an otb filter just for the filter media and put it in the sump

You can add a layer on top of the collection cup that houses dry carbon, this will work purely for the smell as well.

I'm using Rowa phos to help with phosphates, can I put the carbon and Rowa phos in the same media bag as they both need replaced every 4 weeks.

Marine Depot sells a activated carbon infused cloth type product. They recommend you cut circles out of it the same diameter as your skimmer lid and just lay that on top of your skimmer lid. It will filter the smell coming from the skimmer and vwala! No more smell;)
