What do you guys think of my rock placement in this tank? Aesthetically and practically what would you change?

I think it looks nice. Personally, I'd take that bridge out of the middle and have two separate rock piles. I'd use the rocks from the bridge to build up one side or the other so they aren't symmetrical. In the end, just do what you think looks good.

agreed^. its a decent start, but seems fairly one dimensional. I like the caves/overhangs, but agree that you could build up one side or the other for more variety in height. Its like composing a great photo, you want a centerpiece that first draws you into the piece and then other shapes/objects/heights to have your eye/viewer looking around at the rest of tank. your rock "moves" in a very linear way from one side to the other w/o much variance.

What looks to be a larger issue is that his tank is not very wide so it limits his front to back setup, but the vetical can be toyed with. I would get a little more rock and build up the a nice pile on either side, and in the middle towards the front you could build a small pile and then form arches t0 the big piles, this would add dimension to the pile and give lots of holes to hide in.

I certainly like your idea blacknblue2 and it it just so happens that I have some extra rock

Also was thinking if your looking for a specific shape try using an angle grinder with a masonry wheel to shape the rock. This is what I am planning on using when I get to start my 350 gallon tank project.
