I’m new. I have been reefing since October but once I get into something, I become well read and educated. We had a Waterbox 15G and a 35G running at the same time. We bought a reefer 350 and consolidated both tanks. A @Biota_Marine mandarin was in the 35G and a @harrysmarinelife six line wrasse was “holding” in the 15G. Two pairs of clowns, one pair in each tank. At consolidation time, I chose to take the wrasse to the LFS, because it might (I said might) kill the mandarin, which I’ve grown and fattened up since receiving her. And the clowns, I’ve read enough to know that the two pairs may be incompatible. So I chose a pair and took the other to the LFS with the wrasse for store credit. I decided my “love” for the fish was not more important that the well being of the fish, so I decided not to gamble and try combining them. It was hard and I had to remind myself it was the best thing to do. TLDR: Don’t let emotional decisions choose the best option for the fish.

You don't have to worry about the mandarin dragonets. They have a poisonous and absolutely foul-smelling slime coating that wards off predators (I'm not even sure a lionfish would take a second look at one).

I honestly thought sixlines were notorious for killing mandarins, or poking their eyes out.
I have a sixline, probably the most laidback, peaceful and inquisitive fish in my tank. I'm not sure where the reputation comes from, but I guess I won the wrasse lottery. "Nicki" peacefully co-existed with both my male and female mandarin without issue (sadly they are no longer with me, having lost them to a velvet outbreak).
