As
r2r grows and other sites grow we will need to find ways to keep our name at the top! We can have all the information in the world, but why should people come here first? R2R is unique in its general attitude towards ideas that normally get other sites frustrated and treats everyone, even the lesser liked members, like family. It takes a large problem to get banned and most of the time the issue is verbally resolved rather than anonymously reprimanded. That's the biggest reason I see when new members talk about why they joined, including my own. This is one reason I care so much about R2R.

Thinking about ways to recruit not only members, but new companies and organizations is key to keeping the pace going. Sometimes it takes a lot of volunteer work to make progress, but in the end it usually pays off.

As old reefers get old and new reefers are born the technology of the hobby improve along with the means of presenting information. The world is only getting faster, even the music!

How many times have you heard someone say, "that looks like a good read, I'll have to check it out sometime" and forget to read something that would have benefited them?

The majority of the population puts aside more time to watch TV than read, and more and more people are relying on their phones for web access than anything. You probably have to squint to read this now!! Lol! I know I do.

To me, this reduces the amount of information I can take in at one time while on the mobile device. Even the iPad gets strenuous at times. My laptop even makes my lap sweat after what I, I regular bulk writer, consider a "good" read. (20,000ish words).

We are information sharers, gatherers, and presenters. It is our duty to present it in ways that benefit the viewer and bring attention. As a writer, I feel I am obligated to make my points easily understood and presentable.

What is your opinion on a new medium for presenting Reef2Reef's information to the world that will help us grow into a bigger better place for enthusiasts?

Let's hear those ideas.

Printed pamphlets or small card with web address and a mission statement or something describing our friendliness distributed to LFS across the country. They can be requested by supporting members and they, in turn, can take them to their local LFS. The LFS can place them next to their check out. Pretty cheap advertising.

How about a World Tank Tour Video Documentary?
Members could submit a video per topic (Everything from Aquarium Basics to Legislation to Zooxanthellae) then have a vote for what makes it to 'Production' for a R2R Youtube (or Vimeo...whatever) Channel.

Then we could have the content compiled into basic, intermediate and Advanced Reefkeeping e-books for archival, and educational purposes.

Reef2reef stickers for youtube members to put on there tanks.that way they can show off the reef2reef logo in there videos! I know I would put the stickers on my tanks and help support it on my youtube.

I agree Im in for stickers i will plaster those all around Ohio and on my tank!!!

I also agree with getting business cards made with your website and logo and placing them at all local reef supply stores. I see cards in my local fish stores for our local reef clubs im sure they would have no problem supporting R2R!!!

That sounds great Seymour....can you count on someone to do it every week?

That is of course top secret information. Just kidding! We have the entire world at our disposal. "If you build it they will come." But maybe they are already here? The more support a particular idea has the more likely it is to happen.

Now an idea like a traveling host that goes to various places would be more costly than say a guy talking in front of his fish tank for the show so it is all up to you guys, the amazing members, to keep supporting R2R and recruiting all your friends and their friends. The more supporting members there are the more benefits can be given back!

Keep up the ideas, if you agree with any of the above share that! We won't know if you like ideas by not replying :)

More ideas?

Depending on the cost, advertise on sites like AquaNerd, Reef Builders, Advance Aquarist, Etc.

An alternative to paid advertising would be to trade banner ads with other reef related sites.

This may have been done already, but offer T-shirts for sale. Free advertising.

Approach sites like Reef Threads, Mr. SaltWaterTank, Etc, to see if they would be interested in interviewing you to get a behind the scenes look at what it takes to run a large reef hobbyist forum.

How about a spotlight on a show such as ....gulp....tanked, or tank wars maybe giving them some advertising in exchange or something like that

Maybe have some members run tables at local frag swaps....trusted members of course....the flood gates are opening in my mind now ... Yikes

How about having regional R2R member meet and greets?

That would be awesome rev!! Especially for me, since I know like 3 locals with reef tanks, 2 of which I have never seen lol.
Whos coming to my town? I have 6 inches of snow on my grill if anyone wants chilled dogs and burgs. Frozen is better than raw!
