Thoughts on 40Breeder as Zoa/Paly tank

Hey folks, looking for some input. Thinking about setting up a 40gallon breeder tank as a zoa/paly dominated tank. Will be using a TEK 6 bulb T5 for lighting. Will probably drill the tank, but was wondering about thoughts on overflow and returns, as well as return pump. Also looking for thoughts on flow/powerheads.

Thanks, but I'm planning to use of some empty tanks I have sitting around; system will actually be a multitanks system with a total water volume of about 200 gallons.

Hhhhhmmm maybe more specific? I'm wavering between a Quietone 3000 or a Quietone 4000 as the return pump. Thoughts? If I go with 3000, any idea on additional PH required?

Also thinking DSB, so thoughts on light height above the tank?

i have a 4000 with penductors and its blowing my fine sand everywhere. but a 4000 w/o penductors would seem fine on a 40 breeder. I also have mine on a squid with 2 returns.

Cool - I run a 4000 on my 65, but wasn't sure if it would be too much in a 40B.

My friend shane has a 40 gallon breeder and it looks awesome. I love the demmensions, they make for a really good looking reef tank. Keep us updated.

Thanks, I'll try and start/update a build thread on it. I'm hoping that the shorter height will allow for better top down shots. I considered the 30B, but decided I wanted more water volume.

I have a 40 breeder zoa frag tank with the 6 bulb tek. I have it hanging about 10 inches from the water. Colors are very nice, no problems cooling as the tank stays at 76 year round with only 2 cheapo fans for cooling

Excellent! Do you have a sandbed? If so how deep? How high does your LR come up in the tank? Thanks - just trying to get an idea of ideal height.

I do, everything in the tank is black. Sand is tahiti moon only about 1.5" sand bed.. No live rock, top of frag stand is about 6" from top of water

Very nice set-up. I love the look of the black sand. Where did you pick up your light hanging bracket? Did you drill yours, or did it come predrilled? I like the overflow over in the corner. If you had it drilled, where did you pick up the overflow? Hope you don't mind all the questions.

I do alot of custom metal fabrication so I made the light hanging rail myself.
Ive sold a few also so if your interested just send me a pm.
I also made the overflow box from a sheet of black acrylic I had laying around
I had the tank drilled at a LFS

Very cool - I will keep that in mind. I'm still in the planning stages at this point, so I'm not real sure how this is going to end up, but yours has a very nice look to it.
