Thoughts on Bio cube by Coralife?

I went ahead and jumped into a Coralife 29G Biocube and I am very indifferent about it. Its a Huge headache to get everything tuned. I did A LOT of research on the type of equipment that would fit in the small chambers in the back. If you get a biocube be prepared to do tons of mods. The JBJ advanced comes with LEDs so no need to upgrade there and it also comes with a wave timer, but the chambers in the back are even smaller, so you are VERY limited to the Equipment you can get.

Save yourself the headache and get a 30G drilled and have a nice sump. Sumps make this hobby so much easier and you will have the added water in the sump adding to the stability.

Wow, lots of info here! I started out with the 29g also. I kept it very basic. Heater, skimmer, Al SolBlue. I did water change every week and topped off every day. I enjoyed this tank.

I went from a 75 down to a bc29 and love it. I changed the lights to led, put the intank filter in and changed the return pump. I top off daily and do a 20% water change weekly. If you watch how you feed and do regular maintenance you should be fine.

Go with the coralife for many reasons, dont go with IM because i here a ton of complaints about them cracking and leaking making a total mess. Coralife is a perfect tank, its not microscopic lol but not this giant tank. I see people with huge tanks 90g or bigger and they only have a few frags of corals in there . i think because they sent all this money on equipment,tank sand and liverock. And when there done they spent all this money and have nothing in tank, so they can only afford frags. I bought my biocube 2 months later i have it fully stocked. Also the biocube is all in one. plug the lights,heater and pump in add sand water and live-rock. BAM! already are over halfway done with setup, then test your water and add corals/fish. Lmk if you have ???

Hey man can you explain what you mean by tuned? I have the cube and all there is, is a pump,lights and fans. confused.

Well in the back I removed the bioballs and dropped in a pair of CPR nano tumblers (which was prob my first mistake. They are ridiculously hard to tune in confined places) In any case ive got one with biopellets and the other for carbon.

Also the Oceanic Skimmer is crap so i scrapped that! Went with a aquaticlife 115 which is Ehhh. That thing is also a pain to tune. There isnt much space to play with in the back.

No place for a Kalk Stirrer, No place for a Good Skimmer, Lights need to be upgraded to keep SPS and what bugs me is why have a slot and switch for accent lights if they can only be turned on when the moon lights are on?!

Hi there, new to R2R but I saw your post and had to put my 0.02. I have been so happy with my 14 biocube. I got the stock cube with PC lights (but removing bioballs) after a long hiatus from saltwater, figure that I was really starting over with reefkeeping. It has been the perfect tank to learn on and has been more fun and stable than my 65g reef that I started after the biocube! I now have a jbj ato with kalk, mp10, steves LED kit, and in tank basket with chaeto. I used 2 panorma pro LEDs with 1 stunner and had good SPS growth, but wanted to try something else. Here are my progress pics:

Right after PC and panorma pro:

Side by side 1 year apart.

And now with Steve's led kit. This pic is a few months old now:

So my advise is to go with a biocube! I have loved mine and it is very little work now.

I do have a question for the forum though, which is about circulation, and where to put the circ fan akin to the built in pump thats already flowing. Or is that built in enough circulation for a small tank like that where in you wouldnt have need fo the extra fan? thoughts? Thanks!

Depends on your stock. If it is just fish, it's fine. Corals will need more flow. A 250 power head will do fine in a 14 and if you look on u tube at others tanks you will see where to place it.
