Thoughts on blue shifting your daily light schedule

So, I run my orphek mostly even all channel during the day so its more on the white side. I thought this would probably be better for coral health as its a broader spectrum. Then starting in the early afternoon around 2, (my peak is 12 to 4), I start blue shifting the light (not changing par) gradually so that towards 5 or 6 it becomes the "windex tank" where flourescence pop a lot bc thats when I come home from work and view the tank most days.

Thoughts on this? I'm not sure if this is good ( kinda best of both world) for coral, or bad bc of the daily spectrum fluctuation.

I don't think it matters. The first and last hour of my lights are only the blue channel on my lights but I do this more as a signal to the fish of the time.of day as I can't curve the intensity on my lights throughout the day. I also have one light go off before the other to let them know it's bed time

Good? Bad? This is an interesting line of questioning. Certainly it is not natural to have stable PAR measurements on a wild reef. I can't help but think of my parents yelling at us to; "Don't sit so close to the television! It will ruin your eyes."

Certainly aritifical light and specturum schedules will have an impact upon captive corals and their symbiotic zoo populations (and pigment/coloration) but will the "windex tank" scheme have positive or negative, short of long term impacts on the corals is a good question. I bet there are some short term studies but nothing long term since the hobby and technolgy to keep corals hasn't been around for very long itself.

Also agree, in practice, with @Spare time's summary response, but with the note that lighting also impacts many other things in that tank like algae, fish, phytoplankton, as well as things outside like those of us looking at our tanks all day! I'm going to the LFS now, just to see if I am right.

Lets see what other perspectives and knowledge informs folk on this topic!
