good question.

Are these chemicals safe to say pure? Is it safe to say, if you're getting this sodium carbonate, that's all you're getting?

I know all too well about cutting corners to save some bucks. However, when it comes to chemicals, right/wrong, I stick with the trusted & reviewed vendors. That's just me, I'm not heavy into the chemistry. Just offering my alternative look here :)

I prefer local sources. These (calcium chloride and soda ash/baking soda) and easily found locally.
The more difficult part of the diy materials is magnesium chloride. Which I found through a local industrial chemical supplier for $20-30 for a 50 pound bag. an on line source required $20 just for UPs standard shipping.

When I was looking at the calcium chloride on Ebay you posted, there was an add for (Briners Choice) Calcium Chloride Anhydrous food grade that looked to be 94% pure. I've been looking into DIY 2 part also.

I was just looking to see if anyone has used it. Im setting up a 300G dt 150g sump and frag tank so will go through alot. I have a 75 now and go through quite abit.

I wouldn't use them without knowing that is was a high enough quality. A food grade, for example, or various other grades would be OK. Ungraded might not be OK. :)

I was just checking if someone had. I do agree why save a few buck to possibly kill thousands

JUST A FYI

Drsfosterandsmith
