Next month I plan on upgrading to a WB 25 Peninsula. Planning on doing mainly SPS with zoas and an orange hammer. As a result the scape will be pretty minimalist.

I really would like to add an Angel and the Flameback seems like the best candidate. I’ve kept quite a few different angels in the past but don’t really have much experience with Flamebacks. Other inhabitants would be a Springeri Damsel and Pink Streak Wrasse.

How do you feel the Angel would do in the 25? I do plan on getting a larger tank in the next 2-3 years. The alternatives are a pair of picasso clowns, helfrichis or blue stripe pipes which I know would be fine.

They can pick on corals occasionally I’ve heard, all angles can. If it were me ide just go the safer route and get fish that you are sure will do well in a community that small.

I hate to say it, but you should probably wait for the upgrade before adding an angel. A two foot tank really won't give this alot of room to swim, and they do love to swim around the tank. I also think that a small tank might stress out the fish...and that stress might then express itself with "bad" behviour like nipping at your prized coral. Are there other fish on your wish list that might fit in better with this build?

Fish will be fine but in that small of a tank it will constantly be pecking at the same corals.

I would go for the clowns because the helfrichis might struggle with the damsel and wrasse already there. The clowns are also the same nice orange and agood contrast to your other fish. Your guests will always love the clowns more because thats all people recognize. The pipe might not do well in the small tank.

The flame angel might do fine for quite some time and I personally never felt that they pecked corals enough to kill the colony.

I don’t mind occasional pecks at coral and I’ve had good luck in the past with Dwarf Angels by keeping them well fed. Main concern is tank size

Yeah I’d say I’m really deciding between the clowns and the Angel. I love angels and when I upgrade to an even bigger tank I would like a Venustus and some other kind of Angel. I’ve always wanted a nice pair of Percula Picasso’s.

Flamebacks are one of the most aggressive meanest dwarf angels around. I think your tank is too small for one.

Starting to lean towards the clown or maybe the helfrichs unless I can get a very small flameback. Stand should be completed by the end of the month at which point I’ll order the tank

25 gal is a bit too small for Centropyge angel. I agree that the Flameback angel is a beautiful but aggressive little ball of fire. My male and female Flameback angels.
