Thoughts on flexible drain tubing? I’m thinking of using 1 inch drain tubing from my hydroponic grow tub to a trigger sump, best way to achieve this?

If it's clear it'll grow algae. If not it'll still work but won't be pretty. You may need 1 inch barb adapters to connect to PVC. I use both PVC and vinyl tubing on my aquaponics. They have push connectors but they use aluminum to catch the pipe and tubing so don't use those in saltwater.

Also I only use the vinyl for draining not under any pressure in my aquaponics.

I use these, and just recently set up a herbie, which requires 2 hoses. Made the tank almost silent.

I prefer flexible, cheaper (often), no glue required, sometimes harder to work with until you figure out soaking in hot water.
Which tubing do you recommend ? Do barb fittings reduce flow much?

I have used the black flexible spa tubing for 15 years or more. Glues right into pvc fittings.
And where do I find that? Is there a particular tubing at Lowe’s or Home Depot that people recommend?

Eshopps makes a flex tube in convenient lengths. Flow loss is not substantial with barbs.
Anything specifically at Lowe’s you could recommend I know that’s not eshopps but I see they have lots of other hoses

Oh I see. Not really seeing though how your tying the two together. Could look into a uni-seal. With rigid pvc. Cant use uni-seal safely on acrylic though.

Flexible pvc is the way to go. Glues up like regular pvc, can use pvc fittings with it and gives you softer bends for greater pressure.

It really does glue up the same? I’ve always heard that but have been skeptical

Yep, did my entire tank and basement fish room/sump with it. Use regular primer and pvc glue. Get pvc fittings from Home Depot and any ball or gate valves from supply house. Beautiful stuff. Nice, gradual turns. Not hard ones like you get with regular pvc.
