Any thoughts - scanned through ZoaID, but didn't see any that jumped out at me as matching.

Look like some people eater morph, but colors are hard to make out. I'd guess some sort of red PE, but if they are new, they may also do some changing with a time in captivity and in your tank.

Hmmmm . . . guess I need to take another for size comparison. These are much smaller than a standard PE zoanthid, so I would be very hesitant to call it a PE. I hadn't even noticed the green mouth till you both pointed it out. The mother colony is over a year in the tank these came from, and consist, so I don't think it will change much.

aren't that orange PE

They don't look like PE to me but the color on my work monitor is kinda off....the fringes look a little long? Boy its so hard to ID some of these zoas cause lighting makes such a huge difference. I have this brown/orange zoa that under a mixture of 10K+actinics just looks completely pale brown....but under straight actinics it pops bright pumpkin orange frills and has a nice blue/ purple outer ring...spectacular looking...sorry to get off topic.

not pe, pe have striations around base

Thank you CT, definitely confirms they are not a PE, as non of the polyps show the characteristic watermelon striping when closed.

It's a zoanthus gigantus,

Are there zoanthus gigantus that are not PEs? I know all PEs are zoanthus gigantus, but didn't realize that there are others that are not PEs. Besides which, these are small polyps, probably 1/2 the size of most of the PE polyps I have.

Ok, size comparison picture here;

PPE on bottom right, unknown above right, PHE (Purple Hearted zoas) on the left.

Better picture with more polyps open;

Thanks for looking

I have some of those as well, they are small polyps but very nice green mouth :) . I guess they dont have a name :/ .

IMHO' what everyone always calls Palys or palythoas aren't really palythoas but zoanthus gigantus. True palythoas are ugly and most that see them probably wouldn't think they are collectors items.

example
