I am upgrading my leds soon and plan on building a custom set. There will be 24 leds total. Below is the combination I am planning on using. I would appreciate thoughts or opinions on this combo. Any suggestions are always appreciated. 8 royal blue, 4 blue, 4 uv, 4 cool white, 2 green, and 2 red-orange. This set is going on a 29 gallon biocube.

I haven't seen a real need for the uv...I like all the others, and have a similar mix on my evergrows that I made the layout for..

I think I am going to use 4 channels to control the lights with. Channel 1 will run 8 royal blue and 2 blue. Channel 2 will run 2 green, 2 blue, and 2 red-orange. Channel 3 will run 4 cool whites, and channel 4 will run 4 uv.

It looks pretty good to me. I'm guessing you won't need separate control for the UVs tho. U will want them full power. I think they help color and growth myself. I think you will have the whites turned down and probably the red/greens also. Another option might be to replace the red/greens and two of the cool whites with two warm whites that will have most of the red/green spectrum in them, plus additional blue. Whites are very powerful and overwhelm everything else easily. I have 28 LEDs with 6 whites and including two warm whites. It gives a pretty nice daylight look. I may get rid of two of the cool whites however and shift it more blue.

Your mix is fine but like others have said the reds and greens are kinda a marketing thing, a couple warm whites will cover all the warmer colors you need without them.
If it were me I would do 2 more royals and 2 warm whites instead of the greens/reds
10 royals, 4 neutral blue, 4 violets, 4 cool whites, and 2 warm white
That makes a 3:1 blue types to white which about what you want

Gotta agree but everyone has an opinion and here is mine.

10 royals 450nm Cree XT-E, 6 blue Cree XP-E2, 8 violets, 6 cool whites 7.5K Cree XT-E

Then for the spice use the properties of 3 RGB by mixing the intensity you can tweak the colour.

XT-E Warm Whites will give you a more complete CRI with out the effort and control of the RGB.

You have a good mix of LEDs for growth. Adding a few tertiary LEDs like RGB or Warm White to tweak the looks is the Art of the Hobby.

I added a few as I prefer 200 PAR on the Sand Bed when the light is 100%.

Dont forget the optics....
