whats everyone thoughts on having real ocean live sand in the fuge?
tank will be a some what heavy Bio load FOWLR and I will use man made rock.

so looking for more biodiversity but keeping any hitch hikers in its own area?
IDK just thinking out loud here.

I think it should be fine if it’s not disturbed enough that it’s blowing around.

Here is the sump for this build. i'll have a nice dedicated fuge biggest sump i have ever had at 50"
another thought i had saw a layer of seachem matrix but more looking for healthy biodiveristy than just media.

Can’t wait to see everything put together it’s going to look awesome. What fish are you planning on getting?

funny you ask. the original plan is a FOWLR it's right at that almost to small of a tank tho. I had to cut out a few "must haves" for fish onlylike the porcupine puffer and emp. angel.
that siad it will focus on butterfly fish with a few angels tangs and a wrasse or two.

my RS650P that this is replacing was a wrasses dominate system very tempted to do that again too. heck even thought of a nice planted FW system.

all that said I am 90% sure i'll stick to the original fish only build.

Cant go wrong with that sand. As long as the sand doesnt get blown all around in the fuge, youll be just fine.

I wouldn't. It will just make things harder to clean.
that was one of my concerns as well. wondering where the point of return is? more biodiveristy and help a tank mature or harder to clean a small area of the sump?
I am not sure, i know either would work just curious what other R2Rers have dine with success.

Im with @Spare time on this. Sump is where detritus accumulates, needs cleaning every 6 mos or so. Maybe put live rock instead of sand.
I have live rock in my refugium and chaeto on top of that. It gives a place to store rock if i need a piece for a coral, or to retire a piece from the dt.
