Hey all,

I'm just planning out the stocking of my 75 gal reef tank and want your thoughts. I don't want to go very heavy with lots of fish so here's what I'm thinking:

2 Ocellaris clowns (already have)
1 firefish
2 bangaii cardinals
1 marine betta
1 dwarf angel (either flame or coral beauty)

I plan on adding some LPS as well but haven't gotten to that point. I have about 90 lbs live rock and plenty of hiding spaces. I also have a 30 gallon sump and fuge underneath. I plan on adding the CUC when the tank matures more.

Anything on this list I should reconsider?

One of the smaller wrasses from the genus Halichoeres: chrysus, melanurus, luecoxanthus, biocellatus, claudia. Whichever you like the best and can find.

You might also want something to 'perch.' Maybe a long nose hawk or watchman goby.

I just don't recommend Marine betta they are groupers. Will start eating other fish once it gets big.

I don't want to have to part with it once it gets too big. From everything I've read, they wouldn't do well for long in a 75 gal or would require me to shorten the list on the other fish I've chosen. Are their any tangs you would recommend with my size tank and setup?

Tomini or kole tangs (blue or yellow eye) are appropriate size for 75.
2nd the wrasse (6 Line or melananaurus).
Long nose hawk is cool, lots of attention when you come to the tank. But they are jumpers.

I was counting on their shy demeanor but I may rethink that. I don't want to put my clowns and firefish in danger

I hadn't seen those 2 tangs before. Thanks for suggesting them!

I’d grab a couple of small Halichoeres to help with pest control.
All of them do the same jobs but some of them are more known for going after certain pests. I’d also reconsider the Betta as they are a species of Comet which are groupers.

yellow/purple/black/bristle tooth tangs

Zebrasoma species get a bit big for a tank of that size - The 4’ length isn’t the issue but more the 18” width.

I liked having a few (3) firefish. They hang out together
