Thoughts on my first attempt at plumbing plans

Any issues you see with this setup?
At the moment I only have a HOB skimmer that I will mod to accommodate the water level in equipment chamber. I wanted this deep so when I do pick up an internal skimmer I can still find room to place it and it be efficient.
Should I consider lowering just in case of stand height. Most likely going custom diy 2x4 but the steel frame shelves by edsal have been an option as well.
Did I put the bubble trap too soon?
Enough space in the return chamber?
Going for a dc controllable return so I can have occupants in the fuge if possible. Do you see anything limiting that?
Return will be 3/4 down to 1/2 at the return nozzle.. Good/Bad?
Drain will be attached to eshopps slim medium 1" with a simple ball setup herbie for now. I want to run flex tubing as I scored big on the tubing and have run out of uses for it. I feel this way it's less I can mess up with too many turns or bad planning/execution.
Lastly should I scrap the 40b as sump and run a 20l or 29g so I can squeeze my diy acrylic at0 reservoir next to sump?

The 40b is a very large sump for your system size but if you want to run your tank heavily stocked the size could come in handy.

When you build the stand you will want a minimum of 30" height or getting the skimmer out for cleaning could be an issue. Some people prefer 36" which is how I build my stand.
