Like the title says looking for thoughts/experiences ordering fish during this busy time of year? Is it worth it or too risky? Thanks

Thanks for the reply humble fish!! Ever had issues with carriers losing boxes? I think that is my biggest of worries during the busy holiday season.

Not so much losing its the on time thing. Honestly if you live close to a fedex or ups facility its best to have the livestock held and pick them up. The closer to Christmas the longer the ride. 10:30 guarantee is out the window, at least where I live.
As mentioned above, don't even mess around with the driver. Have them hold it at the depot. It will usually arrive first thing in the morning (9am), so be there to pick it up. Take that morning off from work so you can get the fish back ASAP and acclimate them.

haha the 1030 guarantee is out the window for me not matter what!! i never expect anything before noon, and even that is sometimes iffy

It's usually after 6 by the time they get around to my place

I've had good luck. Of course, my deliveries are always here by 9:30 and sometimes by 8:30. The only problem I've had was when we got an unexpected snowstorm (I live in the south and we're ill equiped to deal with winter weather). I called the UPS place and they said they were sorry but they didn't want to endanger their drivers in the conditions. They did offer to wait till I could get there. I picked the package up at the facility and the fish was fine.

I've had boxes delayed in the past, so I don't order anything live between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This isn't even cold yet. I have ordered things in January/February when it reaches below 0*F every day. Only time I've ever lost something was when it was sent to the wrong city and ended up getting here 2 days later. Most places know how to pack for the cold.
I actually prefer ordering fish this time of year. I live in south Texas where the heat is horrible.
I do however have my boxes held at UPS where I pick them up by 9 AM. They do not spend a day being bounced around in a truck. My losses are few and far between.

I agree. They do a better job with heating packages than they do with cooling them down. I avoid summer shipping.

With me I know it's not a matter of cold temps.
It's a matter of all the extra packages being shipped this time of year.
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas IMO it's really taking a chance of not getting it overnight.

I have ordered things throughout the year, but I do agree with the facility pickup method, this way you get it when you want instead of waiting for the delivery folks. Cold is also a relative term, cold to someone in Orlando is 40F, but in Chicago that is a laugh.
