Anyone have or have thoughts on Planet Aquarium tanks. Checking out an used 105 gallon Planet Aquarium Rimless tank. Wanted an idea - not a brand I have heard much about.

They have a solid reputation. If the tank is local to you then chances are it was sourced through a dealer in your area.

A guy is selling his 105 gallon planet aquarium tank and tempted on it. Size of it is perfect for us. So wasn’t sure if quality

Certainly better than typical pet store tanks. I'd place them as mid level in the custom market. I'd try to find out how old the tank is as the silicone doesn't last forever (5-10 years is typical life expectancy).

Spoke to him it’s 11 months old -

I have been very happy with Planet, on my third tank with them. I would agree mid tier for customer tanks

This tells you everything you need to know about Planet Aquariums.

Former builders of Oceanic tanks before the company sold. Their tanks will last well beyond 5-10yrs. I've got a 27 hex that's almost 20yrs old and the silicone is flawless still. I've seen older Oceanic tanks approaching 30yrs no issues. The only tanks I might consider better, would be Reef Saavy.

I recently set up an 87 gallon. It is sturdy and looks great. They are local to Dallas, so we see a lot of them here. Happy so far!

I just ordered a 310 from them. I looked at custom aquariums (don’t like their overflows), glasscages (to many bad reviews). So I chooses planet aquariums because they have all good reviews and they price was actually cheaper than glasscages. The only down side is it’s going to be a freshwater predator tank until my 180 is ready to be retired.

@FLReefer101 thanks so much for the consideration and the honest post. Very happy you selected a builder. Planet makes some incredible tanks. I am confident you will be satisfied.

Regarding the reviews. Please share more. I haven't seen a poor review since the transition that took place at Glasscages in October of 2019. Truly would like to know about any poor reviews. Would like address them for sure. As well as learn from them. We take a very humble approach to every customer and non customer as to learn how we can serve better.

Below is an outline of the transition.

During October of 2019 there was a major transformation at Glass Cages.

Glass Cages Transformation:
• Leadership Change
• Quality Assurance with QA Check Points
• Digital Production Tracking
• Improved Customer Service
• CAD drawing and approval processes
• Major Investments in Fabrication Equipment
• Polished Edges are now standard on all builds

We are not stopping with these improvements. Please see our reviews after October 2019 on Facebook, google and Reef2Reef. We have asked our new customers to share the truth. Knowing the truth allows us to reinforce the good and correct our challenges.

Our Facebook has many of our recent builds, customer interaction and reviews.

Please see the links below to several build threads on R2R

I don’t share all this to sell you on our company. We are hobbyists and are truly excited about this transition. We are excited to offer support that the community so desperately wants. We read and listened to all those challenging reviews and feedback. Didn’t get offended. Nope. We adjusted the company. We are listening and will continue to humbly listen. Glass Cages has been building tanks for over 30 plus years. Currently building about 150 custom tanks a month and we want to continue to serve the best we possibly can.

We are honored that you are considered Glass Cages and we are here to help you even if you decide to go with another builder. Growing and educating within this hobby is our mission.

I am so excited and proud of our Glass Cages Team. We look forward to hearing from you about how we can serve you and others better now and in the future.

Thank you for the information. And it makes me feel good you are here on R2R! The reviews were from here on R2R and also google pre 2019. I also have a LFS that I deal with. We have several here in Fort Myers but found that this one is very honest and not opinionated or bias pushing a certain brand in his store. He does however push a lot of custom aquariums he knows I don’t like the overflows and told me to research online for a tank manufacturer. When I told him I wanted to order from your company he said absolutely not unless you want a flood. He’s been in the industry for 20+ years so maybe old horror stories is why he deferred me from your company.
I currently have my pre-order in with Planet and have to finalize the specifics. I am not on FB but my wife is, and you are correct all of your recent reviews are excellent. I’m not completely locked in with Planet yet so then my question would be what separates you from them?
My current quote with them is a 310 gall internal over flow with their upgraded glass and black background. The dimensions are 96 1/2 x30x 25
for $2429.63 not including shipping. Which I’m still waiting on the cost.
